St. Aloyisus was established as a mission church in 1897. Other missions of the area included those in Fort Bragg and Mendocino City. However, later in 1952, St. Aloysius became the head of its parish, the title that had previously belonged to the still-standing Blessed Sacrament a few miles north in Elk, CA.
